Fedora isn't bad as a server operating system. In fact, I use it in a few servers without issues.

If you're not satisfied with the standard repos for CentOS and want to make sure you get software from some place non-sketchy I'd recommend http://iuscommunity.org - since it's sponsored by Rackspace I'd say that gives it a good measure of credibility

My first, and for MANY years only, Linux OS was RedHat and I started using Fedora when RedHat started charging, and then switched to CentOS for the same reasons as you've explained. However, a couple years ago I tried using Ubuntu, and now I have switched all but two of my servers from CentOS to Ubuntu. The life cycle is great: new releases every 6 months, supported for 18 months; and every two years a LTS (Long Term Support) release which is supported for 5 years. Distributions are available for Desktop, Server and Netbook. I am using the LTS releases for my servers and non-LTS for the desktops. I still really like the RedHat flavors of Linux - but I love the reliability and performance of Ubuntu.

I completely agree with you!
Fedora is a good distro for servers. In my company we have 2 Fedora 12 servers (they were Fedora 8), but because of the short life-cycle we're going to migrate to CentOS soon :(
