50-Monitor Display
I bet you all have watched a video that showed a 24-Monitor panel, driven by a cluster of 12 Linux systems. The people at the Gigapixel Lab at Virginia Tech, those who built that monster, managed to make it run Quake III Arena and that video showed a lucky guy fragging in front of this awesome multiscreen environment. Here is the video for those who haven’t watched it:
Today I visited their website once again and here is what they are up to now: a 50-Monitor panel, powered by a cluster of 25 computers. Unfortunately, no gaming videos this time and, since the guy that was behind the Quake set up has graduated, it is not clear if we will watch any in the future, but there are some awesome pictures of this prototype.
Absolutely fantastic!
PS: I haven’t played any 3D games in the last 4-5 years, but I would definitely love to play one on this system.
